Diversity in our currency

No, this is not a piece about whether the UK should use the Euro, but refers to the letter to the Governor of the Bank of England outlining the need to ensure diversity in the choice of people on our currencies. I was delighted to join this campaign, and I do hope that Mary Seacole, who was an inspirational nurse during the Crimea War alongside Florence Nightingale, is chosen.

The category for the character on the new £50 polymer banknote is a person of note in the field of science, so of course Sir Stephen Hawking, Alan Turing and others are in the running. I do hope however, that Mary Seacole becomes the first woman of colour on our currency. We will know this summer… so watch this space.
